Set children’s minds in motion with Pie Corbett’s descriptive poem resource, featuring poems and activities about cars and bikes…
Start here
Writing poetry about bicycles, cars, lorries and aeroplanes can be a sure-fire hit with both boys and girls. A good start is to raid Youtube for a few film clips.
Get children to list reasons why people buy cars or bikes – and why some people might buy expensive cars. What does a car mean for different people?
Look at images of cars and bikes – guess who might drive each one. It is quite an interesting idea to take a character such as an old lady and then have them driving the sort of car that James Bond might use!
If this topic grabs your class, try writing non-chronological reports about cars and bikes.
