What is the Diary of a Pig series?

The Diary of Pig series by Emer Stamp is a humorous and heartwarming collection of books aimed at KS2 children.

The books are written in a diary format from the perspective of Pig, the lovable but hilariously naïve main character.

Full of quirky illustrations, slapstick humour and Pig’s unique voice, the series appeals to readers who enjoy funny and light-hearted animal stories.

This download contains a variety of activities to try, all based on Emer Stamp’s books.

Objectives

  • Draw on a close reading of the series to plan and create a narrative which reflects the themes, conventions, structure, vocabulary and grammar used
  • Work scientifically to set up a simple fair test, record results systematically and, using this data, draw simple conclusions and suggest areas for further investigation
  • Apply understanding of healthy eating and knowledge of design principles to create appealing packaging

Outcomes

  • Cartoon strip showing a further adventure of Pig and his friends, based on a detailed plan
  • Investigation of balloon-powered vehicles, completed investigation template
  • Written set of instructions for making vegetable soup and an eye-catching design for packaging
