Use this PowerPoint lesson plan to help students learn how to make comparisons in poetry. To make the learning relatable to your students, this lesson focuses on the songs Change by J Cole and Changes by Tupac.
Comparisons in poetry
In this lesson students will:
- Begin with a general overview of what it means to compare
- Work in groups to unpick the songs using TSLAP (the PowerPoint includes questions to aid students’ analysis of the songs)
- Identify the similarities and differences between the songs
- Have a class discussion
- Complete a comparison essay (the PowerPoint includes sentence starters and comparison flashcards)
