This DT mechanisms KS2 project focuses on moving pictures created with paper and card. This is an affordable, accessible and educationally sound way to develop children’s understanding.
Children never seem to tire of the magic of moving picture books. They are often the most worn and well-used books in the school library. Children enjoy bringing their own ‘lift the flap’ and ‘pull the tab’ books into school.
‘Mechanisms’ is a requirement in KS1 D&T, progressing to more sophisticated ‘mechanical systems’ in KS2.
DT mechanisms KS2 learning objectives
- Look closely at a collection of existing moving picture books
- Develop your knowledge about levers and linkages
- Learn new technical vocabulary about mechanisms
