Why teach The Girl at the Front of the Class?
Help young children understand and empathise with the refugee experience with The Girl at the Front of the Class. It’s a moving picture book from Onjali Q. Raúf, the bestselling author of The Boy at the Back of the Class, and illustrated by Pippa Curnick.
Told with heart and humour, this story of friendship and kindness provides an early conversation starter to the topic of refugees for children in Key Stage 1 and 2.
Collaborative art project
This pack contains everything you need to make a classroom display welcoming everyone into your class and highlighting your classes values.
Print out the different bird designs and give them to children to colour in a variety of bright colours. Hang your class flock from a washing line or attach to a classroom display board to inject an explosion of welcoming colour into your room.
