How many times have you got home and shouted, “I’m starving!” and then started to raid the kitchen, looking through the fridge, cupboards and drawers for something to eat?
‘Starving’ is a word we throw about quite easily without understanding the real scientific meaning behind it. This independent learning resource challenges students to look at real starvation as an extreme form of malnutrition, and see what happens to the body biologically.
This resource forms one part of a topic on nutrition and digestion called ‘Food and Famine’. You can find the whole topic on the GSK STEM Education website, here, or find the other four resources at these links:
- Lab Activity 1: Clean, Safe Water
- Lab Activity 2: Future Food
- Lab Activity 3: Liquid Nutrition
- Independent Learning 2: World Hunger
