This pack from The Canal & River Trust contains four classroom-based activities designed to teach water safety to children aged 7-11.
You can use the activities either individually or as a suite. Experienced teachers have created them for schools, group leaders and parents.
The water safety activities will equip pupils with an understanding of risk. They’ll also give them the knowledge and skills to make safe and informed decisions.
The four activities are:
- Hidden dangers (40 mins) – produce a poster or presentation for a younger audience about the dangers in or near water that might not be immediately obvious
- Rescue stations (60 mins) – roleplay in which groups of children consider how they might help a person in distress in water
- Water safety game (30 mins) – a board game in which children decide what’s safe and what isn’t
- Spot the hazards (40 mins) – spotting hazards in a picture of a waterside scene
Each activity lists its aim and anything you need. Many resources are included, ready for you to print out and use.
