What will students see and do?
Pentre Centre is part of the North Wales Outdoor Education Service (NWOES). The centre supports the nearby areas of Conwy, Denbighshire, Flintshire, Wrexham, Gwynedd and Anglesey.
When visiting Pentre, students will experience learning outside while participating in school team-building exercises. The centre focuses on creating exciting school residential trips. The objective of these trips is to:
– build confidence by helping students overcome challenges
– teach independence by encouraging students to look after themselves
– develop teamwork by helping one another
– promote healthy eating and exercise
– show students how to be the best that they can be
– learn about a new area and use Welsh in a new environment
– look after the environment and learn how to be eco-friendly
Trips include memorable outdoor activities in the beautiful countryside of Snowdonia surrounding the Brenig and Alwen reservoirs. These activities include:
– bushcraft
– canoeing and kayaking
– climbing
– coasteering
– environmental discovery
– gorge scrambling
– hill/mountain walking
– mine and cave exploration
– mountain biking
– orienteering
– problem-solving and team building
– ropes courses
All of these activities are taught by qualified and experienced instructors who are used to working with a wide range of ages and abilities. The programme will be selected in advance of your visit, and Pentre will provide all specialist equipment.
After a long day of learning outside, students can return to Pentre for a warm home-cooked meal. The centre offers both multi-day residential courses or day courses. Adventure activities in the Pentre area promote students’ appetite for learning. Students will also feel more confident and more motivated after participating in Pentre’s activities. The hands-on experiences in the wild Snowdonia area will be unforgettable.

Pentrellyncymer Outdoor Education Centre is passionate about adventure and learning outside. The courses offered will help students develop as:

– healthy and confident individuals

Leadership in students is promoted by teaching them to seek out new challenges, set high standards for themselves and build and apply new knowledge.
Students will also learn how to manage and take measured risks, form positive relationships that are based on trust and respect and experience the benefits of participating in physical activity.
Pupils will also learn how to lead or participate as a group member and think creatively to solve problems.

Teaching resources provided
Pentrellyncymer Outdoor Education Centre provides pre- and post-course support, ideas, lessons and resources. Follow-up activities are also provided to expand on learning gained during activities.
Written resources link activities directly to key learning goals. These activities can be built on further once you return to your classroom.
Residential guests have sole occupancy of the centre, meaning Pentre becomes an extension of your school. All courses are focused on meeting the individual needs of your learners. Quality learner support is built into the course, not just bolted on.
Instructors with Pentre will work directly with you to identify your pupils’ strengths and areas for development. This will allow you to reflect on and utilise self-learning and peer coaching on your return to school.
Minimum and maximum group size
Pentrellyncmer Outdoor Education Centre can accommodate up to 45 pupils plus accompanying staff.
Details of risk assessment
All instructors are qualified and knowledgeable professionals.
When visiting, residential groups will have sole occupancy of the centre.

Facilities on-site
Once your programme has been agreed on, Pentre will provide all equipment for your chosen activities.
The centre provides home-cooked food for pupils after each exciting day of adventure.
Pentre was recently modernised and is very warm and welcoming.

Pricing
A typical residential course length is a 3 day/2 night package. Day packages are also available.
The cost per pupil will vary depending on which activities are selected. Contact Pentre Centre to obtain a cost evaluation. Grants can be requested to help with funding.
Travel arrangements
Pentrellyncymer Outdoor Education Centre is located within Snowdonia National Park. Once in the park, all travel to activities is arranged by Pentre.
