What will students see and do?
This National Horseracing Museum is located in the town of Newmarket, which is about 20 minutes from Cambridge and just over 90 minutes north of London.
It has all things horseracing, including the history of the sport, a trainer’s house, strides the veterinary field has made to take care of these horses, and more.
Students will also get to see a skeleton display of a horse in the museum. For those studying animals and other living things, this is a great opportunity to learn more!
Kids will also find out about Britain’s role in the modern horseracing industry and have the opportunity to sit on an equine simulator that can give children an idea of what it’s like to ride a horse and how conditions impact it.
How does the trip link to the curriculum?
The National Horseracing Museum is perfect for history teachers and their students as it’s an opportunity to learn how horses are a part of history of the UK and how horse racing has developed over time.
This experiential learning adventure can allow students to think more about how humans used horses in the past, and have a better understanding of the connection between horses and humans.
Science teachers and pupils will also benefit from The National Horseracing Museum, as pupils can see the skeleton display of a horse’s body, and learn about horse riding with the equine simulator.
