What will students see and do?
Situated on the shores of the Plymouth Sound (an inlet of the English Channel), Mount Batten Watersports and Activities Centre is a great trip to help pupils embrace the outdoors and get out into nature.
When it comes to UK school trip ideas, there’s no shortage of adventure education at this Devon-based centre. Students will get the opportunity to take part in water sports and outdoor adventure activities, whether it’s kayaking, paddleboarding or a land activity such as rock climbing.
For older students, sports such as sailing, windsurfing or powerboating can be arranged. If you prefer activities on dry land, children can participate in orienteering, abseiling or beach walking.
Students can take part in a half day or full day of activities. There’s also the option for a full residential trip, with students staying at the activity centre overnight.
Adventure activities on offer at Mount Batten Watersports and Activities Centre include:
– Climbing, caving and abseiling
– Beach studies and seashore exploring
– Gorge walking
– Orienteering
– Problem Solving
– Archery
– Canoeing, kayaking, sailing and windsurfing
– Stand-up paddleboarding, keelboating and bellboating
You simply need to choose the activities you want students to participate in and how long you would like to stay at the centre.
Mount Batten prides itself on creating customised activity programmes depending on the age group and ability of students. You tell them what you want to get out of the day, and they organise it for your group.
So whether you want to test students’ brainpower with an orienteering challenge or get them to be a little more agile with some paddleboarding, it’s up to you.
How does the trip link to the curriculum?
This excursion introduces students to the great outdoors. The benefits of outdoor learning are endless, from helping students with confidence building to learning how to overcome their fears.
Being outside in situations that are out of their comfort zone helps young people to build resilience and helps them foster stronger relationships with their peers.
The centre has a Learning Outside the Classroom quality badge. All instructors have full training to facilitate educational programmes.
