What will students see and do?
Lindley Educational Trust is a nationally renowned and respected provider of outdoor learning. One of its sites, Hollowford Centre, is situated on the outskirts of the picturesque village of Castleton, Derbyshire, in the heart of the Peak District National Park.
With a wealth of countryside on its doorstep, including caves, crags, rivers, limestone dales and rugged gritstone moors, the centre provides an excellent base for outdoor programmes.
It aims to ensure that people, regardless of background, race, sex, religion, ethnic origin, disadvantage or disability, are provided with the tools and the confidence to reach their full potential throughout life.
Visiting groups can take part in exciting activities such as high ropes, zip wire, archery, caving, rock climbing, canoeing, kayaking, hill walking, team-building challenges, orienteering, off-road cycling, raft building and bushcraft.
During down periods, students can enjoy activities such as ice breaker tasks, indoor clue search, bingo, pool, table tennis, table football, board games, karaoke, rounders and football.
Additionally, while it’s not a dedicated centre for disabled people, staff are able to support students with disabilities, using specialist equipment like buoyancy aids for water activities, harnesses for climbing and abseiling, and a specialist go-anywhere chair made with race car technology. The centre encourages inclusion and wherever possible, people with disabilities will work alongside their able-bodied peers.
How does the trip link to the curriculum?
A trip to Hollowford Centre allows students the chance to take acceptable risks that push against the boundaries of their own capacities, fostering the development of skills and allowing participants to learn through experiences that cannot be taught.
Hollowford Centre aims to be as flexible as possible. Whatever the age or background of groups, staff will carefully plan a course with you to ensure that you meet all of your aims and objectives.
There are no pre-set packages or prices – instead, everything is custom-designed, using a range of both on-site and off-site activities. Whenever possible, groups will use one instructor throughout their activity programme.
