What will students see and do?
Henley Fort OEC is part of Surrey Outdoor Learning and Development (SOLD). The company’s aim is to encourage self-discovery in students through the development of social, physical, emotional and key skills.
Facilitators take an individual approach to students, focusing on their personal strengths and developmental needs. Henley Fort is not a one-size-fits-all school trip.
There’s a wide range of outdoor activities on offer, which can be combined to meet the needs of your group. As well as activities at the centre, visitors can explore the surrounding countryside to discover the natural environment.
Visits can be as short as one day, or as long as a week. A Mongolian Yurt village offers unique residential accommodation overlooking Guildford.
The one-night evacuee experience is an immersive history lesson. Pupils will relive the escape from the Blitz, starting with their departure from school with their gas mask box and ID card. They will take the train to Guildford and then arrive at Henley Fort, meeting their new ‘host families’.
Once settled, pupils will take part in air raid warden and home guard activities. They will then prepare a typical war-time meal with their rations, before bedding down in the yurt village.
The team at Henley Fort is happy to adapt activities to suit disabled groups wherever possible.
