What will students see and do?
One of North Yorkshire Outdoor Learning Service’s (NYOLS) sites, East Barnby Outdoor Education Centre is located on the edge of the North York Moors and close to Yorkshire’s Heritage Coast.
As a result, it is ideally situated to provide a wide range of courses in stunning natural surroundings, including mountain biking on the moors, scrambling up a beck or exploring the seashore.
For 80 years, it has provided high-quality service to schools and businesses alike, with its main residential centres enabling access to the unique North Yorkshire countryside. This outdoor backdrop is a wonderful learning environment with its rivers, hills, coasts and crag, and will provide experiences that engage, challenge and act as a catalyst for learning, positive personal development, growth and change.
The activities and courses are designed to suit all ages and abilities, and include adventure races, beach school, beck scrambling, bushcraft, canoeing, environmental studies, expeditions, field studies, forest school, hill walking, improvised raft building, indoor climbing and kayaking.
Also on offer is low ropes, moorland exploration, mountain biking, orienteering, paddlesports, rock climbing, sailing (regular and RYA sailing schemes), sea kayaking, seashore exploration, shelter building, skiing (dry slopes), stand up paddleboarding, surf sports, themed days (dinosaurs, pirates, coasts and more), windsurfing and woodland exploration.
NYOLS is highly inclusive and skilled at including participants with additional needs. It believes that children of all abilities have the right to learn and have fun while doing so, in a safe but challenging environment.
Thanks to this ethos and the special equipment that East Barnby can supply, the centre regularly surprises people by overcoming perceived barriers and enabling adventurous participation.
NYOLS lives up to its motto by providing an exceptional range of outdoor learning opportunities to motivate and inspire your students.
