What will students see and do?
Situated in the heart of the Peak District National Park in an area of outstanding natural beauty, Crowden Outdoor Education Centre is an inspirational place to learn, develop skills and create lifelong memories.
It offers day visits and full- or part-week residential trips where students will reach new heights, explore underground and enjoy the thrills and spills of watersports.
The range of activities available includes rock climbing, cave exploration, kayaking, open water canoeing, raft building, stream scrambling, zip wire and archery. All activities are led by staff who are experienced, professional and friendly, and have the ability to communicate easily and clearly with all age ranges. Specialist equipment is provided and boots, waterproof coats and wellies can be provided.
The centre can provide evening activities for students or you can use this time to undertake your own cross-curricular activities or reflections. For instance, the area offers some of the most picturesque walking trails in Britain. From gentle riverside strolls to spectacular ridge walks, there is something for all abilities.
How does the trip link to the curriculum?
A visit to Crowden Outdoor Education Centre is a great opportunity for students to learn life skills outside the boundaries of a classroom, broaden their horizons and take part in activities that they may not ordinarily do.
Since the learning will feel more like a game than a lesson, students will easily pick up communication, leadership and problem-solving skills. Staff make sure every student is considered and given their own individual encouragement, ensuring they return to the classroom with newfound confidence, self-awareness and an increased willingness to try something new.
The centre offers a special curriculum-focused residential for KS2 students preparing for SATs. The team will work with you to build a programme aimed at the key learning outcomes you need to achieve.
