What will students see and do?
Conway Centres has 45 years of experience delivering outdoor education, having supported over 300,000 children and young people throughout the years.
One of its four centres, Anglesey, is situated adjacent to the Menai Strait within 169 acres of National Trust parkland – an ideal location for groups to come together and make life-long memories.
Whether they want to enjoy a true outdoor adventure in the mountains or on the sea, or use the setting to inspire their creative and artistic imaginations, Anglesey is the perfect place for an unforgettable educational trip.
Visitors can enjoy a huge range of activities and events. There are the classics such as abseiling, indoor and outdoor climbing, gorge scrambling, high ropes, low ropes, via ferrata and zip wire, and an assortment of water sports on the nearby Menai Strait like adventure swimming, canoeing, dragon racing, kayaking, mega stand up paddleboarding, powerboat journeying, raft building, dinghy sailing, keelboat sailing, stand up paddleboarding (SUP) and surfing.
In addition, students can challenge themselves to take part in bothy fire building, bushcraft, a catapult challenge, compass courses, a drawbridge challenge and a Conway quest.
Other outdoor adventures on offer include expedition skills, frisbee golf, goblin trails, habitat walks, map orienteering, mine exploration, mountain biking, mountain walking, nature detective games, orienteering, winter mountaineering, woodland adventure walks and woodland survival.
There also activities centred around creativity and wellbeing, such as art lessons, bird feeder crafting, dance, drama and yoga.
How does the trip link to the curriculum?
Conway Centres is all about increasing achievement and development through outdoor learning and immersive cultural experiences.
The natural settings, adventure activities, creative approaches and experienced team contribute to an environment that encourages pupils’ physical and emotional health and wellbeing, strengthening their self-esteem, confidence and ability to interact successfully with others, all while offering a unique opportunity for pupils to develop independence, make decisions and build new friendships.
The facilities at the centres are also designed to support schools in enriching the usual provision. Specialist and experienced tutors guide learners through creative programmes, encouraging their engagement with the arts through drama, music and dance. This can boost critical thinking – teaching students to take the time to be more careful and thorough in how they observe the world – and provide challenges for learners at all levels as they develop their fine and gross motor skills, language skills, social skills, decision-making, risk-taking and inventiveness.
To help you with your choice of activities, the centre offers several ready-made and packed-full programmes that range from outdoor learning and explorative adventures to programmes focused on pupils’ wellbeing. However, these can all be customised or upgraded to create your own unique programme that best suits your group – simply get in contact to discuss.
