What will students see and do?
Based at Leeds Beckett University, Carnegie Great Outdoors is a leading provider of adventure activities, outdoor education and leadership development programmes. It is committed to providing innovative learning experiences that combine adventure and education in a positive and creative environment. Since it is a part of Leeds Beckett University, Carnegie Great Outdoors has a highly qualified, expert team of instructors, all of whom have inspiring enthusiasm for the great outdoors and plenty of experience working with adults and children of all ages and abilities.
Through its relationships with a number of organisations, Carnegie Great Outdoors can deliver high-quality outdoor adventure day trips to a number of locations throughout the United Kingdom and overseas – maybe even near your school, to reduce travel. While on their outing, students can look forward to adventure activities such as archery, bushcraft, canoeing, kayaking, caving, potholing, gorge scrambling, hill/mountain walking, navigation skills, orienteering, overseas expeditions, raft building, rock climbing, abseiling, stand up paddleboarding and team building games.
Carnegie Great Outdoors also offers residential school trips with accommodation and transport. The accommodation ranges from country houses, bunkhouses and camping barns to hotels, hostels and campsites in stunning rural, coastal and city locations throughout the United Kingdom.
How does the trip link to the curriculum?
Carnegie Great Outdoors can work with you to create a tailor-made programme to match both curricular and student needs. It supports the development of healthy and active lifestyles by offering children opportunities for physical activity, freedom and movement, as well as promoting a sense of wellbeing and giving them the ability to develop skills and self-confidence. The children will leave energised and talking for months to come about the exciting experiences they have shared.
The activity programmes can also be used to build the confidence and skills of young people during the critical school transition phases between primary and secondary, secondary and sixth form, and sixth form and university. These types of courses are very popular and leave a lasting impression on the students involved.
Overall, the benefits of the programmes include enhanced learning, increased self-confidence and self-esteem, increased independence and responsibility and improved communication and teamwork skills.
Pupils will also gain increased resilience and determination, the ability to face challenges and gain experience in the outdoors, learned trust and respect, improved friendships among students and enhanced pupil/teacher relationships.
A trip with Carnegie Great Outdoors can help to develop the foundation of life-long interests, improved health and wellbeing, the ability to empathise and understand new perspectives, increased aspirations and motivation, and increased knowledge and understanding of the outdoors and natural environment.
