What will students see and do?
With over 30 years of experience in providing safe, enjoyable activities for young people, Carlton Lodge Activity Centre is situated on the borders of both the North Yorks Moors and the Yorkshire Dales.
The site boasts its own lake for water sports and 12-acres of land featuring an extensive climbing wall, an adrenaline-fuelled 100m zip wire and an archery range.
Whether you’re looking for a 3- or 5-day residential, a 1-day package or an individual activity session, Carlton Lodge’s activities are designed to educate, excite, inspire, test and reward in an outdoor setting that can challenge, motivate and change lives.
These activities include abseiling (off-site), archery, axe throwing, bouldering (off-site), bushcraft, canoeing, caving (off-site), challenge course, tree climbing, wall climbing, evening activities, gorge walking (off-site), high ropes, hill walking (off-site), kayaking, orienteering (on- and off-site), puzzle-solving, raft building, rope bridge and zip wire.
It’s not all adrenaline and challenges. Learn old countryside skills such as hedge laying or drystone walling alongside making the environment a better place. Carlton Lodge has numerous environments so whatever your passion, be it lakeside, woodland or parkland conservation, there’s something for you.
The site can also offer the John Muir Conservation Award as part of its Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) Gold residential that’s held each summer.
How does the trip link to the curriculum?
Carlton Lodge Activity Centre has been providing flexible, affordable activities and accommodation for schools since 1970.
Successful completion of the activities requires teamwork, communication and forward planning, though there are numerous opportunities for experiential learning.
Many of the adventure activities also help develop coordination, concentration and use of fine motor skills, which is especially good for younger learners.
What’s more, all of the activities can be linked to the national curriculum for PE. Many also link to maths as building or travelling activities require calculations; and/or PSHE, as some challenges teach lifelong skills.
Carlton Lodge ensures that activity staff undertake basic youth work training to make sure that young people get the maximum out of their visit.
The site sees a huge diversity of young people with individual needs, so the passionate, experienced and qualified team pride itself on delivering the best safe and enjoyable activities for all.
All of this, in conjunction with the high-quality facilities, makes Carlton Lodge a fantastic venue to bring young people for an unforgettable school residential trip.
