What will students see and do?
As the largest of Butlin’s three resorts, Minehead is the ideal location for those wanting to embrace everything that’s brilliant about the Great British seaside. It is located in a serene town at the edge of Exmoor, Somerset, and there is nearly one mile of beach right on its doorstep.
You’ll find plenty to make your trip to Butlin’s Minehead special, including restaurants, a vintage fairground with stall games, the Skyline Pavilion where you’ll find lots of entertainment, a charming chapel and a thrilling pool where there are slides, flumes, a lazy river and an outdoor paddle pool.
Students can take part in fun activities such as adventure golf, archery, fencing, high ropes, wall climbing, field games, sports, cinema and disco.
If you fancy doing a little exploring outside of the resort, Minehead is near to Exmoor National Park, meaning you’ll find plenty of nature trails and walking paths with lovely views. There is also Dunster Castle and the West Somerset Railway, open for a nostalgic trip on a steam train.
How does the trip link to the curriculum?
Butlin’s has hosted school residential groups for over 50 years, continuing the ethos set by founder Sir Billy Butlin, who believed that all children should be able to experience the fun of the British seaside.
Today, students can take advantage of the full range of high-quality facilities, accommodation and dining at Minehead, enjoying a unique combination of learning and fun. They’ll come away with new skills, special memories and, for some, their very first experience of visiting the seaside.
The school residential trips are aimed at pupils aged 8 to 13 years and are tailored to suit your school’s learning objectives.
The Butlin’s team can design a flexible programme that contains four one-and-a-half hour sessions each day with different activities to keep everyone engaged.
These sessions are designed to support and encourage positive attitudes, an awareness of others, motivation, improved wellbeing, physical activity, social development and responsibility.
Working in a team will prompt students to support each other; recognise achievements; and listen to, understand and act on instructions.
Activities also aim to boost confidence and self-esteem as students take on challenges, explore new environments and achieve goals.
