What will students see and do?
The Education People is a one-stop shop for education services, supporting the full age range from early years to young adults.
It aims to improve children’s learning, wellbeing and development in Kent and beyond. One of its educational sites is Bewl Water Outdoor Centre, an adventure centre for water-based and rock climbing activities. It is situated along the largest inland body of water in the South East, offering 800 acres of lake and countryside for outdoor learning.
The site has a team of qualified outdoor instructors ready to deliver a variety of adventurous activities to all levels of experience. These activities include dinghy sailing, windsurfing, canoeing, kayaking, stand up paddleboarding, mountain biking, rock climbing, team-building challenges, obstacle courses and orienteering.
Participants can even earn qualifications in watersports with the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) and the British Canoe Union.
How does the trip link to the curriculum?
Whether it’s to offer a new challenge, to develop teamwork, improve leadership skills or connect with a curriculum topic, the highly-skilled team at The Education People are more than happy to create the perfect bespoke programme for your group. The team will work closely with you to ensure they fully understand the purpose of your visit, provide a programme tailored to your needs along with resources to assist you in measuring the impact of the outdoor learning undertaken, and guarantee a supportive environment where your students can challenge their perceptions of their own ability.
To do this, the team will use the natural landscape whenever possible, provide open and transparent two-way feedback, and regularly evaluate their work to ensure they deliver the best quality and value. The advisers and managers of The Education People have experience as headteachers, teachers, early years managers and youth workers, meaning they understand your challenges, know how the system works and can help you to take advantage of new opportunities when they arise. For instance, safety is paramount with young people so all specialist equipment is provided, including helmets where needed. Instruction for the activities is given by experienced professionals, who have considerable knowledge and understanding of teaching beginners safely.
