The centre’s learning-focused activities are adventure courses, animal tracks, bushcraft, discovery walks, trust walks, forest walks, ice breakers, low ropes, mini beasts, pioneering, pond dipping, problem solving and shelter building.
Alternatively, the developmental activities include art in the environment, bottle rockets, campfire making, disco, egg drops, treasure hunts, geocaching, night walks and orienteering.
Avon Tyrrell is also committed to being a fully accessible centre that strives to give everyone the same opportunities to experience, learn and develop through adventure and discovery. They understand that everyone’s needs are different and has specialised staff who are passionate about inclusion, with activities that can be adapted to be accessible to everyone.
How does the trip link to the curriculum?
Outdoor education has long been recognised as an important contributor to a young person’s physical, personal and social development.
As a leader in outdoor learning, Avon Tyrrell has everything your students need to learn and develop in the outdoors. Its knowledge, expertise and experience bring learning to life through a range of tailor-made programmes and sessions that will be adapted to your aims and objectives. Students will come away having developed life skills, built character and created memories that last a lifetime.
Since the venue is a Learning Outside the Classroom (LOtC) badge holder, you can be assured that the highly qualified staff provide the support your students need. Pupils are challenged as they work towards increasing their initiative, commitment, personal responsibility and self-motivation.
Furthermore, all of the activities are run with a personal development and ‘challenge by choice’ approach, meaning that sessions are voluntary and individuals will not be forced to take part in any activities. This ensures that every child works within their own personal ability levels and are encouraged to challenge themselves appropriately.
