30 Second Briefing

Award-winning author Lisa Williamson has created a fantastic free creative writing pack for you to use in your school, inspired by the Scribble Society club, featured in her Bigg School series.

1. Six inspiring sessions planned and ready to go

The resource pack contains clear instructions, worksheets and teacher’s notes, designed by Guppy School, for busy school staff to simply pick up and use.

A Scribble Society club can be held anywhere and at any time: after school, at lunchtime, in the library, on the playground – all your scribblers will need is a pen/pencil and their imagination!

2. Promote inclusive reading and writing for pleasure

Scribble Society is a place where children can have fun and experiment with stories. Activities like designing an escape room will unlock creativity in both confident and reluctant writers. All ideas and abilities are welcomed at the Scribble Society.

Children will also be introduced to Lisa’s fun and empathetic books, as well as some of her personal favourite stories to read.

3. Perfect for transition

Each session could be used as a stand-alone creative writing lesson and the activities can be mixed and matched as you wish.

The Scribble You activity is ideal for a transition session, to help a teacher get to know their new class. This could be followed up by using the fun collaborative writing prompts in Scribble Some Story Seeds.

“Hearing a popular author talk passionately about their work can be extremely powerful and inspiring for children.”

4. Author masterclass in your class

Hearing a popular author talk passionately about their work can be extremely powerful and inspiring for children. Lisa Williamson introduces the Scribble Society and shares her Top 5 Writing Tips on the Scribble Society webpage.

All the exercises have been tried and tested by Lisa in schools across the UK and she is so excited to be able to share them with you for free.

5. More Bigg School resources

Further teaching resources for all three books in the acclaimed Bigg School series, including chapter-by-chapter discussion questions and creative activities, are available on the Guppy School page.

The Scribble Society webpage will soon include a dedicated space to showcase children’s creative work. It will be updated regularly with additional resources and writing challenges.

The monthly Guppy School Newsletter will keep you updated and contains regular competitions and giveaways.
