What is it?

MathsBeat is a clear and consistent teaching approach to mastery designed to engage all children with maths. Overseen by series editors Mike Askew and Robert Wilne, MathsBeat builds in progression and assessment throughout, with reasoning, fluency and problem-solving weaved into every task, and embedded professional development to support all levels of teaching experience.

MathsBeat is a digitally led primary maths mastery resource for KS1 and 2.

MathsBeat’s planning and sequencing of engaging tasks ensures that all children can participate in, make progress in, and enjoy maths.

Throughout, the suggested prompts, actions and questions give all children opportunities for deep learning; similarly, MathsBeat gives teachers effective strategies to support children, whether ‘in the moment’ or over the longer term.

The clear, consistent and coherent teaching sequence builds in progression and assessment throughout.

Embedded professional development resources, including unit opener videos and questioning prompts, support all levels of teaching experience (including NQTs, TAs and supply teachers).

Teachers can learn from MathsBeat at the same time as their pupils.

Each teaching sequence in the MathsBeat programme has problem-solving and reasoning built in, preemptive teaching ideas to address gaps, and activities for support and going deeper.

‘On track/Look and listen for’ features help you to identify when children are on track, common misconceptions and suggested next steps to help close or reduce any gaps straight away.

This is all presented in unique, time-saving digital planners which collate smart board software, front-of-class slides and downloadable practice activities into one easily-accessible place. The fully customisable resource library enables sharing of content across school and through applications like Google Classroom and Microsoft Teams.
