Are you looking for new tools and techniques to bring Shakespeare to life in your classroom?
CPD sessions by Shakespeare’s Globe offer practical ways to develop your students’ understanding of Shakespeare’s plays that you can take away and use in your lessons.
Sessions are designed for English literature and drama teachers, focusing on Key Stages 4 and 5.
1. Join from wherever you are
Sessions are available online and at Shakespeare’s Globe on London’s Bankside – so you can join from your school or visit us in person.
2. Learn performance-based techniques
Shakespeare’s words were written for the stage, so our CPD sessions provide tools to get students on their feet and performing his plays.
Expert Globe Practitioners share rehearsal room techniques used by actors and directors, which help students gain understanding of Shakespeare’s language.
3. Dive into key curriculum texts
Play-specific sessions examine key curriculum texts such as Macbeth, Romeo and Juliet and Othello. They focus on deepening students’ understanding of each play’s characters, context, themes and imagery, along with their critical thinking skills.
“Our thematic CPDs help you develop your approach to facilitating classroom conversations about current issues.”
4. Explore Shakespeare through the lens of social justice
Our thematic CPDs – Teaching Anti-Racist Shakespeare, Teaching Shakespeare and Women, and Teaching Shakespeare and Sexuality – examine his plays through the lens of social justice and help you develop your approach to facilitating classroom conversations about current issues.
5. Take a guided tour of the Globe Theatre
CPD sessions at Shakespeare’s Globe also include a half-hour Guided Tour of the Globe Theatre, to bring to life the performance context of his plays.
