These Halloween writing worksheets allow children to stir up their magical potion in their witch’s cauldron.
They can write or draw what ingredients go in to make their unique potion, then write all about what sinister effects it has.
There are two versions included, a more basic one for younger children and a more advanced one with various descriptive and creative writing tasks.
Halloween writing activity sheet
Write your potion’s ingredients inside the cauldron, the more gruesome, the better. Popular Halloween ingredients include:
- Slugs and snails
- Eye of newt
- Frog’s legs
- Fish scales
- Ogre’s teeth
- Spiders and flies
- Rat’s tail
- Fingernails and toenails
Describe what happens when you mix your potion in the cauldron. Write down all the sights, sounds and smells that your concoction creates.
- Does it fizz and boil, or bubble and smoke?
- What colours can you see?
- Do certain ingredients make different things happen?
- Is the mixture thick and gloopy like mud?
- Are there lumps or is it smooth like water?
Explain what your potion is for. Does it make something shrink or grow? Does it turn people into animals? Or make plants come alive and turn into scary monsters that protect you? Are there any side-effects you didn’t intend?
