When thinking about Red Nose Day ideas for your school, it can be easy to focus on silly nosewear, cake sales and wearing pyjamas to school, without explaining to children the issues underlying the day.

One of Comic Relief‘s priorities is supporting the millions of people who live in urban slums in Africa. In this active, creative lesson, children will work in teams to design and make a model of a stable, durable urban slum structure.
Engaging with the problems of slum life in this way will hopefully bring a new sense of meaning to their fundraising. Children will:
- learn about urban slums and materials used to build slum homes
- work in teams to plan, design and build a model structure of an urban slum home
