You’ll get a great response when teaching children about the gruesome nature of crime and punishment during the Tudor period. But coupled with teaching about branding, severed hands, beheadings and stocks comes a responsibility to impart a deeper understanding of why such extreme punishments were doled out and why on earth common Tudors would risk committing crimes if the consequences were so dire. Teaching this helps children start to understand what it would have been like to live in the Tudor period.
